I have the honour to transmit to you
herewith 12 copies of the Report on the Epidemic of -
Bubonic Plague in Hongkong in the year 1900.

It will be observed that while' the
number of deatha was almost the same as in 1896 the per-
centage of mortality is higher being 96,5 am against #9.5
in 1896

Of the 428 houses infected cases oc-
curred last year in 54 or 12.58 % and the mmber of in-
fected houses noted as being in a bad sanitary condition
is 29 or

Kore than one case occurred in 43
houses or 10 %.

Having regard to the large proportion
of houses in which only: a single: case has been recorded
both last year and in 1899 it has occurred to me that
the centres of infection may be found in the rice go-
downs and other places where large numbers work.
